“Hi, I’m calling to find out more about your weight loss program. Would love to hear more about what is unique about your diet. Please call me back.”
A very common voice message I receive from a potential client.
I want to use this opportunity to tell you exactly how and why I work with clients.
Since moving to New York from London back in November 2016, I have notice a big difference between the type of clients I work with here compared to the clients I worked with in London:
Weight Loss: We Know What To Do Yet We Don’t Do It
In America, when it comes to nutrition, we are a well educated bunch.
I would even say a little bit too educated.
(It could be one of the many reasons why people have such a hard time maintaining their weight loss.)
Another difference I have noticed is: Portion Size
I remember when I first arrived in New York, I couldn’t finish a restaurant portion.
After enough time and practice amateur hour is over and you get used to it!
The worst part about it is that you start to think that this is a normal portion size!!
Anything smaller than this wont fill you up.
Too add more fuel to the fire, our lives revolve around food. Especially as a Jewish person.
Every weekend we have 3 big meals!
Every time there is a gathering and holiday (and there are a lot of them!) there is food involve.
These aren’t excuses.
It just makes the journey of living a healthy lifestyle that much harder.
I have never personally ridden an elephant but apparently elephants are animals that hard to lead.
(Way to change the subject Tzviki.
Bare with me)
As long as the elephant is happy you can ride them and lead them. They don’t mind.
If something upsets the elephant.. It is game over.
The elephant will override the riders lead. It will go the way it wants to go dragging the hapless rider with it.
This is what it is like in our mind.
We have the emotional side (the elephant) and the rational side (the rider).
The rational side wants to lose weight.
The rational side knows what to do.
The rational side is willing to do what it takes.
But unfortunately our emotions override our rational thinking.
When you feel uncomfortable, stressed, annoyed, upset, hungry, there is no rational thinking.
Your brain just wants to get back to a happier state.
The way the brain knows how to get out of the emotional state is from past experience.
The brain recollects previous experiences to see what it did then to feel better and then seeks to do the same thing here = HABIT
Maybe this is in the form of binge eating; Chilling on the couch and procrastinating a task; Skipping your exercise because you’re just not in the mood, so on and so forth.
Most of this is happening without us even knowing about it.
This could explain why even though you really want to lose weight but when it come down to it, you’re unsuccessful.
For most, the main issue isn’t what we think it is.
It is something else.
Most people think it is the diet they are currently on.
Diets only addresses the symptom, not the actually issue.
When you address the symptom – sure it might go away, but come a couple of months and the symptom is going to come back.
Don’t get me wrong. The way most people eat is an issue in itself.
The way we eat is because of deeper issue.
Rationally, we know that by eating cake it will result in an unfavorable outcome. We know it won’t help our weight loss if we binge on our favorite snack every night.
Still we find ourselves eating the wrong foods at the wrong times. Why?
This could be because :
Emotional eating and/or too much stress
A priority issue and/or lack of control
Lack of time
Majority of the issues will fall under the 3 subjects above.
This is where we come in.
We help you find your limiting factor.
The thing (and they’re maybe more than one) that is holding you back the most from achieving your goals.
We come in and teach you the skills you need to overcome the limiting factor.
Once you have understood the new skills, it is time for you to start using it in the really world. It’s time to start implementing them into your days and into your lifestyle.
We are working on recoding your old habits. You didn’t accumulate the bad habits over night and you won’t magically wake up with new healthy habits tomorrow.
At the beginning (first 40 days or so) it may feel like you are pushing a 1,000 lbs rock up a steep mountain.
This is why each client gets the support they need and are held accountable to make sure they do what they need to do.
The results for clients that manage to stick to the plan is: complete freedom when it comes to their food.
The greatest thing is: the tool you need to acquire to become successful with weight loss will help you be successful in all ares of your life.
Committed to your success,
Tzviki
